Chapter 3. Warriors of Today M ore than 70 years later, the legacies of the Partition remain clear in the subcontinent: in its new political formations and in the memories of divided families, and the stories of its unhonoured heroes. The years past independence have not been easy for us, the British fled India in hast leaving behind them their theory of divide and conquer, and the effects of their mental torture over the past 200 long years. These repercussions were easily visible throughout India, multiple uprisings, revolts were shattering the vision of the newly formed one India. People were divided and misguided, the many different states wanted their own independence. Democracy came to us as our saviour. It found a way to resolve everyone’s issues in an orderly fashion.
