Takeaways from Avatar: The Last Airbender
Animated series are often presumed to be cartoons for children; however, as it is said, you should never judge a book by its cover, the same thing applies to series and their art forms. Watching the series ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ I was amazed by the amount of valuable content the series has to offer, apart from hilarious punch lines and eye pleasing artwork.
Avatar: The Last Airbender has taught me various valuable life lessons, helping me overcome obstacles thrown in my path and triumph successfully. This show is not built around a central idea, rather it focuses on the dynamic essence of people and their principles. It talks about water, earth, fire, air, the four basic elements of the universe and the people who can control them through bending.
Didn’t these short words get your mind intrigued on what is the plot of this series and how do they unfold? Being an avid admirer of animated movies and cartoons, I was eager to watch this series and feel its magic.
The show portrays how diverse people and their actions are, synonymous to how we meet people from different backgrounds, different ideologies and learn to work alongside them. Amidst the chaos of the 100 year old war the creators conveyed the message of how “friendships can be one of the most powerful forces in the world”, through a group of five friends who travel across the world in order to restore peace amongst the four nations.
No one in this world is perfect, we all have our positives and negatives. It is how we tackle our weaknesses and use our strengths for the benefit of the society that makes us different from everyone else.
The show depicts how a non bender(a person who cannot bend any of the elements) even though being surrounded by powerful benders, finds his calm and realizes how his unique skills help the team in ways even the benders cannot. His origin story teaches us that everyone's talents are useful, no matter how bizarre they may seem.
Another important takeaway from the show is that your past does not define you, learning from your past mistakes is what shapes you and primarily you are responsible for who you are. The beauty of this series is how effortlessly they depict these deep and valuable life lessons through the actions of its characters. This helps us to easily relate with these situations in our real lives and these teachings show us the path to conquer them before they turn into demotivating memories of our past. An instance we all can relate to is scoring less than expected in exams, despite putting in the hard work… It is these characters that give me strength to push away the past and focus on a brighter future by learning and mending from my previous mistakes.
Life's a rollercoaster journey down the most unexpected hill and balance is the light that guides us along the route. The main mantra towards living a truthful life is having a balance between everything. Just like the yin yang, even how seemingly opposite they might seem they actually are interconnected and interrelated in nature. One cannot live without the other, just like how light cannot exist without the darkness. The giveaway, find an equilibrium in all your actions.
If you look for the light, you can often find it. But if you look for the dark, that is all you will ever see. Sometimes even a small piece of music is enough to ignite the fire within ourselves to get up and change. Learning is all around us, it is up to us to keep an open eye and a clear mind to grasp these minute teachings and inculcate them in our lifestyle.
A series truly worth watching. Before diving deeper into the personalities of its characters, it would be fun if you watched the series before reading the blog. This would help you share an unbreakable bond with its characters and get mesmerised in its aura. Until then, I wish you HAPPY BINGING !!!
